Chevy Camaro SS Rips It Up with 13 sec 1/4 Mile!

FULL CAMARO COVERAGE @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com The last thing General Motors needs right now is to appear as if it’s stuck in the past, creating gas-guzzling cars that are out of step with what the federal government thinks is the future. So even when Chevrolet steps into the way-back machine to unveil the 426-horspower retro-inflected 2010 Chevy Camaro SS, it’s careful to mention that this muscle/pony car is the “sports car for the 21st century” and emphasizes the Camaro’s fuel economy ratings more than its 0-60-mph performance. So we did what had to be done. We dropped an asphalt-melting burnout in the parking lot of a former seminary that was of such destructive length that the guys hired by Chevy to prep and clean the Camaros had time to wander over and say, “Stop. You’re done.” Had a Dairy Queen been available we would have laid a patch in front of that, too. Look, man. We’ve been waiting for years for the arrival of this car; there will be time to talk about balance and the quality of the interior materials later.

@Marshmallowrex 13 sec is faster than 95% of the cars on the road.

  3. ROTTINGDEAD says:

@Camaro17k Mustangs cant be Girl cars as they rape little Camaros.

  4. Camaro17k says:

@GuSevene I think the 2002 camaro ss looked badass and the trans am they will never be able to beat that look again mustangs are girl cars thats why they sold alot of them

  5. Camaro17k says:

If the camaro motor was over head camed it would make unbelievable number like the lt5 in 93- 95 almost 400 hp out of a 350 dohc motor and they would run mid 12’s all day in corvettes. if you had a supercharger with even 2 psi boost on the new camaro motor it would kill that 5.4 in rwhp, when the mustang stage 3 is prolly pushin 6 psi

@Camaro17k Um yeah MM&FF pulled an 11.951@120.29 on stock tires with the 2010 GT500 and the 2011 Shelby lapped the the 2010 around VIR by 9 seconds. So you can probably expect mid 11s by the 2011 GT500 since the 2010 Roush Stage 3 was able to pull an 11.572@124.78 on its stock Coopers.

I, for one, AM NOT the least bit impressed with squealing, tire-spinning, smoking burnouts. They do not instill in me the desire to go out and buy a new Camaro ( or any other car that is producing these burn outs.) There is a lot more to a vehicle, besides tire smoke, to make me want to buy it. To be honest, I would rather have a 68, over a 10 or 11 Camaro. And FYI, I am a 66yr old fart, who owns two Corvettes, a 67 and a 99.

The fastest time so far on the 5th gen is 12.5 its over at LS1tech. The 5.0 and the LS3 are both great platforms I see no need to bash either because this time ford brought a gun to a gun fight.

@kawasakiis2fast4u Are you serious? There are a myriad of videos right here on youtube, just search 2011 Mustang vs Camaro! The F-Bodies died out in 2002. Were you not aware that Chevy ‘brought back’ the Camaro? You’re clueless about things if you think the last iteration of the F-Body is on ‘backorder’ haha. Chevy wasn’t selling the Camaros so they stopped producing them. Regardless, that doesn’t change the fact the new GT is doing high 12’s in the 1/4 mile stock.

  11. kawasakiis2fast4u says:

@GuSevene oh sorry you must have seen video footege of the new stang againsty the new camaro. Show me a video of this. Also what the hell are you talking about the camaro is pulling back out of this, cause the fboady didn’t sell well. It still is on backorder. So where did you get that information from.

  12. illmisshimforever says:

My dad just bought one of these.

  13. GuSevene says:

@kawasakiis2fast4u the 2011 mustang GT has been tested on the track – what are you talking about that ‘no one has actual proof’. The model has already been given to many reviewers… And it’s a constant battle between the Mustang and Camaro – Chevy has to withdrawl the Camaro from production for a while because they didn’t sell extremely well as F-bodies.

  14. kawasakiis2fast4u says:

@GuSevene its all hearsay, no one has the actuall proof. No I doubt mustang will beat camaro, mustang HAD to step up there game because mustang fans where complaining about how the camaro was more powerful by far and cost the same price as a mustang. Either way no one trully knows whats what right now. Ask a mustang owner and hes gonna say mustang won ahands down, ask a camaro owner and he will say the same thing

  15. traviserck says:

    @Camaro17k
I own a 2010 GT and it does not put down high 12’s. IT puts down mid 13’s and would get owned in the 1/4 mile by the SS. I love my 2010 Stang but I wouldn’t race a Camaro SS whom I clearly know would beat me by several car lengths.
Now the new 5.0L thats something that the Camaro will have to deal with. And history shows that Chevy don’t take it lying down. Expect a Z28 to reckon with Mustang soon enough.

  16. GuSevene says:

@kawasakiis2fast4u Ford hasn’t said the track times as far as I know, though, I’m honestly not the most knowledgeable person in this matter. However, from many reviewers out there it seems the v6 model runs the 1/4 mile in 13.6-13.8 seconds which is a half a second quicker than the 6 banger Camaro, and gets better gas mileage. Pair that with the fact that GM is making some poor choices abroad, I’m pretty sure this new car will dampen Camaro sales. Though, Chevy will do something about it.

  17. kawasakiis2fast4u says:

@GuSevene Ya thats what ford says BUT thats what they say. I have a serious doubt that ford will effect camaros sales….At all. I don’t very many poeple that want a mustang. Oh and to set the record streight camaro set the bar for 2010. It was mustang fans that where bitching about how there mustangs aren’t as fast stock as the camaro and they paid just as much. Even so we’ll see what the outcome is when compared.

  18. GuSevene says:

@kawasakiis2fast4u well, not only will the 2011 mustang GT slow sales on the camaro SS, the v6 Camaro will basically be out of the picture now that Ford has created a respectable v6 model – the base model is a half a second slow in 1/4 mile times, and not to mention, many reviewers are saying Ford has seriously increased the new Mustang’s handling and drivability. So no, “sorry buddy” the Mustang will continue to stick around for another 46 years. Hopefully the Camaro won’t die… again.

  19. GuSevene says:

@Camaro17k the 2011 mustang gt is not only lighter, but dyno results have shown that the stock hp at the crank is ~430-435. There have been a few dyno pulls floating around the internet showing between 375-395 RWHP. i’m not certain which is correct but i would assume 380RWHP is a safe estimate. So the car is lighter and a bit more powerful hp wise (i’m not sure about torque but it seems more likely that the camaro would have more). So yes, the new GT’s are pulling 12.8’s as well as the GT500

  20. guinea169 says:

Comparing Mustang GT500 to the Camaro is hardly fair. With a sticker price 20 k higher the GT500 is not the same class of car so for 20 k you get roughly 0.7 seconds faster in the quarter mile (nearly $3000 for each 10th of second) and I believe the GT has about 110 more hp stock than the SS so you are at about what $190 per horse? Ill keep my 20k and drive my Camaro add 10k in aftermarket parts and eat GT500’s alive with 10k left over

  21. Camaro17k says:

BTW richie your a moron your saying the mustang gt 4.6 is putting down a 12.7 1/4 mile when the 5.4 supercharged gt 500 is putting down a 12.8 1/4 mile lmao wow maybe 395 rwhp for the gt 500 not the gt

  22. Camaro17k says:

pretty bad when a camaro ss is .1-.2 sec slow in a quarter mile then the mustang gt 500 LMAO 5.4 supercharge what a joke pretty bad when a N/A car almost can beat it and cost less sad ford= old tech still straight axle? camaro is independent and just got the 6 speed couple years ago lol gm had a 6 speed in 1993 reason why gm went under for a while bc they put more in tech then ford ever will hell ford put straight axles in everything lol like the ford F-250 in early 2000 still had lock outs lol
