How to get more Horsepower?
I have a 07 mustang gt. I bought it stock and since then I have added saleens supershaker supercharger kit which boosted the horsepower around 500. I also have ford racing long headers and a x-pipe along with racing bullet mufflers and thats it on exhaust. when i bought the supercharger i sent my computer in to saleen so they could program the cars computer with the supercharger they bumped up the rev limiter to where i could not red line and really just made it safe with the car but they didnt tune it. I am going to go get my car tuned for real but other than that what could i add for more horsepower.

Pour a little bleach/Chocolate syrup solution in your tank.
Add a Camshaft and a nice set of heads…
With all that extra HP you have ignored two very important things. Improved braking and performance suspension. Don’t go cheap on the brake calipers and rotors. Buy the best you can afford.
New Exhaust, Turbocharge it, Make it lighter with lighter rims. Bore with exhaust and headers. Slap fancy stickers on it.
The s/c kit bumps your fuel pressure under boost, and the factory ecu is adaptive. “Tuning” is not required.
If you want more power, install a better set of heads and a cam.
how about you upgrade the fuel system, bigger injectors, do you have a k&n intake already and get a boost controller on it so you can raise the boost or bored the engine out
feed the horses better, make sure they can breathe well
the tune of your cars engine is controlled by a computer. Once the computer has been programed no further adjustments are required for it to run “in tune”.
So when you say “but they didnt tune it” I guess you mean they didn’t change the standard engine computer settings other than to adjust the rev limiter.
It should be unnecessary to change the standard computer settings after supercharging. In reality all you’ve done is increase the density of the fuel/air mix. This boosts the amount of oxygen and the O2 sensor in the exhaust will allow the computer to adjust the timing and injectors accordingly. This is so because air can naturally get “supercharged” so the manufacturer has to allow for this. Up a mountain the intake air is less dense, on a cold day it is more dense – your car will always have the most power on a cool damp day when the air density is highest. So the programming for modest supercharging is already on the chip
It should be possible to get a specialist to “re-chip” your computer to produce more power. If you spend time in the pits at a car race you will see a highly paid guy who actually has control of the race cars computer by radio. He will adjust ignition and fuel setting as the race proceeds. If the car has electronic valve timing he can even “cam” the thing up on the fly. The driver just tells him how much power he needs ( so as to save fuel ).
You should find a very competent person for this kind of work. As you compress air it gets hot. With the extra power a supercharged engine can melt quite easily. But it wouldn’t be unusual to see an extra 25% power with the right re-chipping guy.
The simpler way to get more power ( if you’re game ) is to change the pulleys/gears that drive the supercharger so that it runs faster. This will increase the boost – and the power a great deal. But bear in mind that the intake air will get even hotter then. It may become necessary to use a higher octane fuel then to prevent pre-ignition ( detonation ). The computer has a “knock sensor” in the head that detects pre-ignition firing and retards the spark timing accordingly – so the computer may try and strangle the power of your up-boosted engine by retarding the ignition if you use the wrong fuel. ( one again it would be very good to get the re-chip guy to race tune all this in ) You may find yourself adding an octane booster ( like ethanol alcohol ) to each tank of fuel.
Often it is necessary to fit an intercooler then. This is a device that cools the compressed air before it enters the engine. An intercooler will have an additional effect – it will compress the air even more since cold air is denser than hot air. An intercooler will make the supercharger run more efficiently and increase power as well.
I hope you have a strong crankshaft and con rods in this engine. Most V8’s i’ve had could handle up to around 650hp on the street without radical heart surgery. But I would have always increased oil pressure and radiused oil galleries etc. But an 07 Stang should be pretty good in this area – should be….
Keep on truckin eh
