How reliable are the newer Volkswagen GTI’s?
In other words, would a 2005 or 2006 GTI likely have serious problems to fix in the first 100,000 miles? How about after 100k miles?

I am wondering about it too since I want to get the 2006 one….but too expensive for a small car like that – $28k?? What were they thinking?
I had a 2002 GTI and it was very reliable. The only problem I had with it was one of the coil packs went bad. But it was under warrenty and replaced at no charge. The 2006 GTIs are a new design and there is very little information on there reliability. I feel that if proper maintenance is done to a VW they are very reliable.
Well my friend all I do is work on euro cars. The new MK5 body style GTi are 2.0 Turbos. this car is a very reliable car in my opinion. Its solid, very nicly eqiped, and its a step above the 1.8 turbo in performance but a step down in fuel econmey. I service about 10 VW a month on just basic oil and check ups. nothing out of the ordinary unless its VW’s window regulator problems. which is no longet common in the Newer VW’s I mainly work on building VW up to a higher HP. the new 1.8t are easy to work with in gaining HP and the whole reliable fact goes down as soon as you get cheep on parts or try to skip steps in building the car to produce more HP. I would say a MK4 to MK5s are is the best car out there if you want a car that drive nice, decently quick and good reliability. but if you want lots of power go with a MK2 or MK3, lighter, and many more options with performance, remember there is no replacment for deplacement. thats why a VR6 GTI TURBO will always be the best GTI out there. if built properly.
