Would a 1967 Ford Mustang Coupe be a good first car for a 16 year old?

I am 16 and I really want a 1967 Ford Mustang Coupe. It is my dream car. I found one for cheap and I really want to get it, but I’m not sure if it would be a good choice as my first car. So, help? [=
When I said it was cheap, I meant it as that it isn’t as much as most 1967’s would be.
And I understand that it would most likely take some fixing up. I am all for that.

Obviously, a 67 automobile isn’t nearly as safe as the newer models in the event of an accident.
This being said, I wouldn’t recommend it for the first vehicle for a 16 year old.

I would have to say that it is probably not a good idea. The biggest problem you will have is reliability. Older cars were never as reliable as they are now, and being 42 years old is only going to make that worse. A classic Mustang that is “cheap” is going to cost you in the long run.

Get something a little more modern for your 1st car. There are plenty of years left to own Mustangs, and when you have more money you will be able to afford one that is in good condition.

I hate to say this but its not always the best idea to buy your dream car as your first car, but I’m sure you would love having it and driving it and if it was me i would still buy it. but i don’t have much room to talk because i went and bought a 944 Porsche as my first car. And make sure you can afford the insurence.

That is one sexc car!! It probably needs alot of work and love. It would be a nice project car, but i don’t think it would be good for a First car. Most people have car accidents in their first few years of driving and that would be Assam to smash. Also the insurance would be extremely high for such a car. You would need a well paying job because those kind of car are pigs on gas too. I am 20 and I have a 1970 Cutlass as a project car and I have already sunk in over $10,000 into it. I also, have a 1997 mustang full tricked out and I pay well over $300 in insurance. Hope this helps! :)

its not a bad first car, but if it is cheap like you say, then look it over very carefully before you buy the car. chances are it is a rust bucket, or it has a lot of mechanical issues, or it needs a lot of bodywork because it is loaded with bondo. my advice would be to keep looking unless you are willing to put a lot of time and money into repairs. one more thing, when you go to look at the car, take someone along that not only knows cars, but knows mustangs as well.

it is very possible that you might have a diamond in the rough, but it is even more likely that you have a rolling junk pile. i too like mustangs, all of them, and i own a 66 mustang along with a 64 falcon so i know vintage cars.

i have a lot of mustangs just bought the 2010 Shelby gt500 i think u should get a new model and get some experience just because of the safety issue and handling and things u will need to learn how to drive for your age.

Honestly I don’t think this would be a good first car unless you’re familiar with older cars and are aware of all the work and care that goes into owning one.

It’s not a car you can just “gas and go” so to speak. Classic cars require regular maintenance at much shorter intervals than new cars; so it’s not just the fixing up you need to consider, it’s the keeping up as well. You may also have a difficult time finding insurance for this car due to its age, even if it’s under your parents’ policy.

If you are dead-set on getting this car, make sure the body (outside and inside) is free of rust. Rust is cancer, and is nearly impossible to cure once it has worked its way into your car. Making sure you select a car that is “cancer”-free will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

I’m not trying to rain on your parade, I just want you to be aware of all the complications involved in owning a classic car. If this is your dream car, then go for it! I wish you the best of luck.
