the audi r8 has 4wd because it is a car designed for actual people….it has made it possible for regular drivers to get near the limits of the cars without wrecking it or the person driving it….the zr1 is much more of a handful but similarly to the z06 you turn much more with the throttle…. fast into the corner hard on the brakes and then feed power back in to keep the rear wheels on the limits of adhesion…both are great cars..

That a cars performance is proportionate to the drivers skill. If you cant drive a car at the peak of its limits then you have no room to critsize it.
Why do you think they have the Stig?
Most people though arent great drivers though thats why we have TC, ESC, ABS brakes, Launch control, and other electronic assists to make up for poor driving skill.
ZR1 is a pure drivers car not intended for amateurs who need AWD and electronic handling assists like you’ll find in an R8.
Not to mention that GM offers a 2000k alcantara and sueded leather interior option From Recaro now which would still cost less than a base V10 R8.
Find me one european car for 120 k that has 600+ hp and can perform with exotics 3x’s the price.
Funny how TG chose a wet day to test the Zr1 and funny how JC tuned the suspension to tour and not? sport.
There are significant differences in devices designed for amateurs vs professionals. For example, the tennis rackets used by a professional would not provide an amateur with his highest level of play. Likewise, an extra-stiff golf club shaft would not be beneficial to 95% or more golfers.
With that in mind we should not be surprised that Clarkson does not do the ZR1 justice and visa-versa. The Stig, a pro driver, drove ZR1 to the fastest time ever tested on a damp track on Top Gear.
Clarkson, slamming the pedal to the floor (like you did in the ‘Vette) is not the ideal cornering technique. Funny how the first time he drove it, he couldn’t find a *single thing* bad to say about it, but all of a sudden it’s a POS? Hmmm…
Clarkson, predictably, stated the R8 had a “dampish” lap. He fails to say that the ZR1 had a wet lap. Certainly it would really hurt his pride to admit that a 4wd drive car SHOULD perform better than a rear wheel drive car on a wet track.
No doubt it was simply an oversight on his part. He still refers to the carbon fiber on the Corvette as being plastic. He simply hates the fact that the Vette is that good!
You think Clarkson can’t drive? You should see him flinging other cars around that track. He may not be the greatest driver in the world, but he’s good enough to point out the flaws in the Corvette.
